On May 10, volunteers from Tyler Union-Anniston (Union Foundry) partnered with the YMCA to help get Camp Hamilton ready for opening season! L'« Y » ouvre son camp chaque année au cours de la première semaine de juin et les enfants sont prêts et attendent l'ouverture des portes.
They had several projects that needed attention, but the Tyler Union volunteers focused on the pool deck for the first go-around. La terrasse de la piscine, de 30 pi x 70 pi, avait vraiment un besoin urgent d'être réparée, et ils ont donc commencé par retirer l'ancienne plate-forme, en veillant à sortir tous les vieux clous et vis rouillés, ont empilé le vieux bois sur un camion pour sa mise au rebut puis installé la nouvelle plate-forme. Les marteaux martelaient, les pieds de biche basculaient et les scies bourdonnaient : quel travail!
It was a much bigger undertaking than any of them thought it would be, but they were extremely proud of the finished product. Tyler Union volunteer Kathy Knight said, “Camp Hamilton is located off one of the main thoroughfares through Anniston, and I can’t help but look every time I pass by and just think, Wow, someone did an amazing job on that deck!”
